2 for 1 – Celebrating 20 years
Academia celebrated 20 years of its existence in 2014. As part of giving back to society Academia offered 2 FOR 1 program for those with desire to study and get employed but in financial difficulties to finance their education. Academia offered almost 100.000 EUR in scholarships to more than 70 individuals.
Funded primary care health clinic in Maribor for homeless
Academia was the first organization to financially support Free Primary Care Health Clinic in Maribor for homeless people. They do not have an access to health system in Slovenia as they are not insured. Today the clinic still operates with an excellent team of volunteers – physicians, nurses, lawyers and interpreters.
Funding schools in india
Our retired colleague, Milena Sajko has become a great global volunteer, education kids in Africa and India. She made a contact with Mojca Gayen, who together with her husband Anup runs a school for the poorest children in the village of Piala near Calcutta in India.
Academia supports their school in India both financially and in terms of providing basic resources such as workbooks, pens toys for the smiley faces.
Microloans to western Balkans around the world
Academia joined Kiva.org in 2013 to help farmers and local businessmen in developing countries fund their business by microcredits.
So far Academia made over 80 microloans to entrepreneurs in more than 30 countries, including western Balkans – Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo.
